Subject: WEAP CLIMATED ARE NOT SHOWING VARIABLES FOR NETCDF - ERA5 Posted: 3/15/2024 Viewed: 1863 times
Good morning, my name is María Alejandra.
Im working in Atrato river in Chocó, Colombia. I would like to use ERA 5 NETCDF file for the soil moisture method in WEAP. But now I can not read the variables, that is a problem that I had not before when I used the past WEAP version.
May I ask for a meeting with someone to talk about the topic, really I am very confused with the new version because I am using WEAP for my Thesis.

Maria,
In order to help, could you please describe the error message you are receiving and what you are trying to do?
If you end up finding a solution on your end, please post and let us know so other users can learn.

Doug, thank you for your help.
I don’t have an error, just when I choose the NetCDF in the climate section, WEAP don’t show me variables.
I have using and reading my NETCDF in other softwares and I think that is not the problem, because my datas are good.
The problem is that it doesn’t show variables in WEAP.
Thank you again.

Maria,
Looking at your NETCDF file, it is giving an error because the climate variables have an extra dimension called expver which is giving WEAP problems. The dimensions for the climate variables for a NETCDF should only be time, latitude, longitude.
Here are some other tips from the WEAP help on using NetCDF files for climate in the catchment delineation:
When using your own NetCDF files for land cover or climate: the name for the longitude dimension must be "'lon", "longitude" or "X"; the latitude dimension must be named "lat", "latitude" or "Y." Climate variables must have a time dimension, which must be named "time". The timestep must be either daily or monthly. For climate variables, the order of dimensions must be time, latitude, longitude; for land cover variables it must be latitude, longitude. WEAP is compatible with NetCDF version 4 (and earlier) files, including the use of compression and packing. For more information about the NetCDF file format, see https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf.
Cheers,
Doug
