Subject: Best way to regulate the flow along a river Posted: 5/15/2015 Viewed: 16755 times
Hi everyone, some feedback on the following questions would be highly appreciated! Thank you!
What is the best approach to regulate the flow rate along a river with many reservoirs and demand sites along the one river?
1. To regulate the flow by giving the reservoir a max hydraulic outflow if the flow is to high and adding a flow requirement if the flow rate is to low at some parts. The later can be combined by adding som flow under the "reaches".
2. Adjusting the flow manually by adding a river/diversion or a demand/Catchment site that withdraws or adds flows to the river, where needed. This approach is better than the former as it enables to make changes on a monthly basis. But it's rather time consuming.
Any other suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

Hi Nicolina,
I would opt for your 1st option as it would describe what you have in reality (reservoirs and water demands). In addition to the Max Hydraulic Outflow and the Flow Requirements, I would also pay attention to tune the priority rank (of filling the reservoirs, of satisfying the Flow Requirements, of satisfying the Water Demands), which is an extremely important parameter in WEAP.
You can have the priority rank takes monthly values if needed.
Hope it helps.
