Dear WEAP Team,
I am conducting a research study on the impact of small dams in the upper Wadi Hauran watershed (Iraq) on Euphrates River flows using WEAP.
I would appreciate your advice on:
1-The key datasets required for this type of study.
2-Why Catchment Delineation generates the entire Euphrates Basin instead of only Wadi Hauran.
3-Whether Catchment Delineation automatically provides all required data or if additional data must be entered manually.

Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,

Hello Saeed,

1. Since automatic catchment delineation includes data on climate and land use, you will need to find information on water demands for irrigation and urban uses. As well as data on infrastructure such as canals and reservoirs.

2. You will need to Set Area Boundaries (right click on schematic then click Set Area Boundaries). Make sure the box you select for the area boundary ends along Wadi Hauran before it reaches the confluence with the Euphrates river. Catchment delineation works by flowing downstream from the point you select with your mouse when creating the catchment initially until hitting your area boundary, then including the entire contributing area to that point. You can also modify an existing area boundary by hovering your house over the downstream outlet of your catchment and dragging to move.

3. Catchment delineation provides climate and land use information, but does not calibrate the hydrologic parameters (such as soil water capacity). It also does not include data on human water demands or infrastructure.
