Subject: Customizing Data Variables Posted: 6/13/2016 Viewed: 15414 times
Hello Sir, Ma'am,
In WEAP, under "cost" tab, can I define a variable which has a unit of "$/MWh", where WEAP can take value of "MWh" from "Annual activity level".
Let me know for any further clarifications.
Thanks
Nikhil

Dear Nikhil,
The short answer is no, but the long answer is yes.
For your user-defined variable, you must pick 1 unit, not unit/unit. What you can do is have a variable called "Cost per MWh" with the unit "U.S. Dollars". This is the unit cost, in dollars, which is what you want. Then you have to figure out how to use it to get the information you would like. I imagine you would like to know the total amount of money. You can create another user-defined variable called Total Cost (unit "U.S. Dollars") which multiplies your "Cost per MWh" variable with the "Total Cost" Variable."
There is an excellent example of this using Electricity/Cubic Meter in the WEAP tutorial section about connection WEAP-LEAP, and this example is also the subject of the video "User-defined variables" in our videos (www.WEAP21.org/videos).

Hello Stephanie,
Thank you very much for the information, it was very useful in developing my model.
I am facing another difficulty. To calculate the "annual capital cost" I have put this expression
"User Input Capital costs[$]*Annual Activity Level[MW]*1000*Capital recovery factor[Prod.]"
User Input Capital costs is the variable I created to enter overnight capital cost for a power plant.
Here WEAP is calculating correct values for reference scenario, but for the additional scenarios, WEAP is not taking "annual activity level" value from that particular scenario.
I want WEAP to take input variable for "Annual activity Level" from that particular scenario rather than reference scenario.
Let me know for any clarification.
Thanks

Hello Nikhil,
I do not know why it is not working. Can you please send me your WEAP area so that I can test it? The easiest way to do this is from WEAP. On the main menu, go to Help, Send Email to WEAP Support. Make sure to select "Attach area" so that WEAP will attach your area to the email to me.
Best regards,
Jack
