Dear all

We are applying WEAP for a river basin in Macedonia. Amongst others we will model rainfall-runoff for all sub-catchments of the basin as well as irrigation demand for the irrigated agricultural areas. I have a couple of questions concerning the Soil-Moisture-Method and the MABIA-Method and the combined use of the two in WEAP:

Was the MABIA-Method for the main part developed to determine transpiration, evaporation and irrigation demand and only secondarily to model runoff? If one is simply interested in modelling runoff is the Soil-Moisture-Method the more straightforward and sensible approach?

Would it thus make sense to model rainfall-runoff of non-agricultural land fractions with the Soil-Moisture-Method and irrigation demand of agricultural land-fractions with the MABIA Method (i.e. use MABIA simply as a crop-model)?

Thank you very much for your help!

regards
Lukas
