Subject: Demand Priorities and Reliabilities Posted: 1/11/2012 Viewed: 27807 times
Hi All,
I have a reservoir supplying 2 demand nodes. I have assigned priority of (1) and (2) to each demand node respectively. However, when running the model, a change in demand for the node with priority (2) affects the reliability of supply to node (1). I was expecting node (1) to be independent since it has a higher priority hence the reservoir meeting its demand first THEN trying to meet node (2).
Can anyone please assist in explaining the above occurence?
Thanks very much!

Hi.
WEAP and all simulation models are single period models.
If the reservoir didn't exist you could expect that the reliability of demand with priority(1) be independent of the amount of demand with priority(2).
But in this case, there exists a reservoir. When you increase any water demand, the storage of the reservoir will be lowered. Thus the available water for the next time step will be less. It may affect all demands. WEAP does not look forward. It just sees the existing time step.
However, it doesn't mean that you can do nothing. WEAP is a great flexible tool. You should just know how to manipulate it!

Thanks for the explanation!
I agree with you, it is a great tool which can be skilfully manipulated!

Hi all,
I am having the same problem. I have a river and two demand sites getting their water supply from that river. I am running a scenario to check the unmet demand for the next three years and as per my understanding the demand node with priority (1) should have its supply fulfilled before the demand node with priority (2). But the results show that all the demand for demand node with priority (2) is satisfied and demand node priority (1) has insufficient supply.
Can anyone please elaborate the explanation to this case.
