Using Tags to Filter, category and Subtotal Results

If you have created tags in your WEAP area and associated them with objects, then you can also use these as an additional dimension in your result charts and tables.  Tags are a very powerful technique for organizing your model and viewing results.

To use tags in your reports, you need to follow a few basic guidelines.  First, create categories of tags and make sure that all tags are assigned to a tag category.  Next, add tags to objects in the Schematic View or branches in the Data View, making sure that any branch only contains one tag from each tag category.  For example, if you have tags (e.g., North, South, East, West, Central) in a category named "Location," do not assign more than one of these tags to any single object.

Once you have followed these steps, Tags and Tag Categories will automatically appear as additional dimensions in your results charts.  If you select Tags on the legend or X Axis, WEAP will subtotal the results by tags within the selected category.  You can only display results by one tag category at a time.  WEAP will automatically warn you if any branches have multiple clashing tags for the current tag category, since this would lead to double-counting of results. If you have multiple categories, you can choose among them by a selection box that appears above the chart or table.  For example, go to the Unmet Demand report in the Weaping River Basin area and select All Tags for the legend.  You can choose among the categories Demand Type, Location and Size to see the unmet demand results grouped and subtotaled according to the tags in each of these categories.

You can also use Tags and Tag Categories to filter and group results.  For example, in the Unmet Demand report, choose All Demand Sites for the legend.  Use the tag selection box to choose "Agriculture" -- WEAP will filter the result to show only demand sites with the tag agriculture.  The tag selection box will only includes tags that have been used to tag objects relevant to the current result chart or table.  For example, if you have tags that have only been used to tag reservoirs, they will not appear when viewing Demand report.
