Dear all

My question is i want to get the water demand from a single reservoir for different purposes like irrigation water supply. the thing is i have river inflow data (monthly) from 1920 to 2010 and and i want to get the future demand from 2017 to 2025. I also have the total capacity of reservoir and evaporation monthly (mm). How do i get this future demand? Please help. If possible please email me at nth@wapcos.co.in as soon as possible.

Dear Navneet,

This question does not have an easy answer. You say you need the demand for different purposes. Here are some thoughts:

Irrigation: You could try modeling your irrigation demand using a catchment in WEAP (see the Tutorial module Hydrology), but this will require a lot of detailed data, and calibration on your part. You can also model the agriculture demand as a demand site (see the Tutorial module WEAP in One Hour).

Domestic demand: There is no way around, this you will need to either collect data, or make assumptions based on other information known about the system. Remember that any assumptions should be documented in any reports that you write about the WEAP model.

Other water demand: Again, it is a matter of gathering data, or making assumptions.

I'd also like to know, what is the actual meaning of 'Reliability' of water demand? What should be the optimum reliability for a demand site?

Hi Navneet,

Reliability measures the percent of the time steps in which a demand site's demand was fully satisfied. For example, if
a demand site has unmet demands in 6 months out of a 10-year scenario, the reliability would be
(10 * 12 - 6) / (10 * 12) = 95%.

Remember that you can look up this information in the WEAP Help menu. In WEAP, in the top menu ribbon, go to Help/Search and type in Reliability, and you will see an option of "Demand Results." There is a lot more information you may want there.
