Subject: FAO Rainfall Runoff Model
Posted: 3/2/2011 Viewed: 33938 times
Dear All,
I am working on setting up WEAP for a number of small catchments, area <150km2. Unfortunately, data is scarce and what i have is only monthly rainfall and streamflow data for each catchment. The land cover can mainly be divided into 2, forest and tea. therefore, i decided to use the FAO RR method. I derived ETref using the Penman method outlined in FAO Paper 56 for monthly data. Similarly, the Effective P was derived using information from FAO. I have used Kc = 1 for forest and 0.95 for tea with no monthly variation.

Upon running the model, it consistently overestimates the peaks and underestimates the low flows. Despite tweaking the parameters ETref, Kc and Eff P, the results are similar but with some improvement.

Can anyone help me with any tips to further improve the results? maybe I am missing out on something?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Huzefa
