Pumping

Pump Layer

Groundwater layer or layers (as defined in linked MODFLOW model) from which to pump. Specify layer=255 for a cell to have pumping come equally from all layers in that cell. To have withdrawals handled instead as negative recharge, specify layer=0. If pump layer>0, WEAP will add cells to the well file if they are not already there. If pumping from more than one layer, use the PumpLayer function to specify fractions for each layer.  The pump layers can vary over time or by scenario.  If blank, will default to 0 (negative recharge).

Injection Layer

When using injections wells for artificial recharge of demand site return flow, specify MODFLOW layer(s) into which to inject water.  Leave blank or specify layer=0 to have return flows handled as recharge. If injection layer>0, WEAP will add cells to the well file if they are not already there, and the return flow will be added as a negative abstraction to the well cells. Specify layer=255 to inject equally to all layers in the cells. Use PumpLayer function to specify fractions to multiple layers.  The injection layers can vary over time or by scenario.  Injection Layers can only be used for Demand Site return flows, not for Catchment infiltration.

On the Basic Parameters screen you can choose whether all demand site and catchment subbranches will pump from the same MODFLOW layer or set of layers or whether each subbranch can pump from a different layer or set of layers.  For Injection Layer, WEAP will use the same setting as for MODFLOW Pumping for Demand Sites.

Note: Pump Layer and Injection Layer are only used when linked to MODFLOW.
